How a scientist got strangulated? Why?
I poor boy from illiterate family of a remote village, on banks of Ganges, wished to do some thing to his country about 40 years ago when he was not still able to understand the meaning of his country. He fought the poverty, diseases, which use to haunt him almost every time the season use to change and the curse of the society, being born in a backward family. He excelled in his studies despite of being feeble heart and body, too weak to be found suitable for small pox vaccination, a compulsory inoculation in those days. He got fellowship for completing his education up to higher secondary and free hostel residential facility through getting merit in a UP State Exam of class 8th, to help the village students (however in majority of the cases, true village students were few and poor needing help were rare). He did his graduation in veterinary sciences so that can help the family and the like poor peasants, spending the minimum time in studies. After graduation joined State Dairy Services and started his dreams to materialize, worked hard, day and night under rain and sun, in villages and towns to educate livestock farmers to get their live stock vaccinated and achieved the hill task of inoculation of thousands of cattle, many times more than his colleagues did, but he forget to please his boss (through gifts and cash bags) being always busy with work and work, mostly being ignorant of the demeanours of the educated society of free India and mannerism of the cultured classes, he got punished but taking the opportunity he qualified for getting fellowship, almost equal to his salary, for doing his Masters degree in Veterinary Sciences. But some people are born with problems and problems reach where so ever they move. In this context I remember a story, in Dikshant a Guru called his disciples and gave them one bucket made of pieces of wood to fetch the water and return it next day, everybody went to river and returned the empty vessel, all being leaky at joints can not kept water, but one poor fellow gave a thought and soaked the bucket in water overnight, wood swelled and sealed the leaks and he returned the bucket full of water. The Guru blessed him that let the problems should never leave him alone. The similar kind of the man is there in this story who in his dissertation got some interesting findings which his adviser wanted to be published in the name of the latter but he again proved to be the adamant villager and could not join the post of general manager, Meat Products of India Ltd., due to not being able to get the degree on time from the university (Indian veterinary Research Institute) where in the same period Degrees were awarded on the same day, the day of submission of thesis, he could got it after seven months of submission of the thesis that to after direct intervention of the VC. He joined the UP State Veterinary services and being posted in a village he did what he wanted, to improve the condition of villagers drudgery of the animals and the poor live stock owners, vaccinated all the animals irrespective of ability of the owners to pay for the vaccination, charged a bit more from those able to pay and a bit less from those were unable. In the mean time his dream job came, i.e., the scientist, he thought it to the most sacred and pious (but realized it now that it have never been in India otherwise there would have been several Nobel laureates in India too, who spends large sum of research and salary of the scientists and even more on the paraphernalia.. He joined the Job in Indian veterinary Research Institute, and started working hard, did his Ph.D. again with CSIR fellowship, toiling day and night ignored his supportive wife in her difficult times for which he could not excuse himself and can not ask for pardon because she being considerate (either mad herself or being another of the same kind) and knowing his madness excused him long back. Who knows either his daughters will excuse him or not (must not) for being indifferent towards them when they were young enough to understand and being away (getting punished) when they need his support during their crucial time of studies. He did a lot with the facilities available which brought him name and fame and also the timely promotions. What madness he did, in short, is as under, details can be found through internet search pertaining to each and every idiocy mentioned below:
A. Developed Vaccines
· Toxoid vaccine for control salmonellosis has been developed to protect animals against all types of Salmonella, the toxoid protected experimental animals against homologous and heterologous challenge for more than 3 months with single inoculation. The vaccine has been developed for poultry birds to protect against Salmonellosis. Patented in the U.S.A. (US 6,605, 285 B2) and India (Patent No. 189049), [96].
· Toxoid vaccine to control klebsiellosis in rabbits and mice against all types of Klebsiella. The vaccine has potential in protection of livestock against klebsiellosis, the major cause of mastitis, septicaemia and diarrhoeal outbreaks and in-shell death of chick embryos in poultry birds.
· First truly oral Vaccine for Animals, Live double mutant defined deletion vaccine against Salmonellosis in equines with defined marker in Salmonella Abortusequi.
B. Developed Diagnostics
· Kit for rapid field diagnosis of canine Parvovirus infection in dogs.
· Developed simple sero-diagnostic tests for diagnosis of Klebsiellosis in animals.
· Developed (Genus-specific) antibody capture ELISA tests for diagnosis of salmonellosis.
C. Developed Synthetic Milk detecting strip, which needs only one drop of milk and one minute and cost less than 50 paise.
D. Developed bio-models for important diseases
1. Mouse-foot-pad-model for detection of enterobacterial enterotoxins.
1. Guinea pig model for studying pathobiology of equine Salmonellosis.
2. Germinating maize seed model for testing cytotoxicity of Salmonella.
3. A mouse model for studying pathobiology of edwardsiellosis.
E. Developed novel Epidemiological tools for typhoid and paratyphoid infections
1. Developed DNase typing method for subtyping of Salmonella strains.
2. Developed Haemolysin typing for subtyping of Salmonella strains.
F. Developed Technology for
1. Obtaining crystal-pure phospholipase C from Salmonella.
2. Obtaining dermo-necrotoxin C from Klebsiella pneumoniae.
G. Basic findings for the first time in world
· Identified existence of Pasteurization resistant Escherichia coli and Enterobacter cloacae.
· Proved Paratyphoid infection in plants, Established phytopathogenicity of human and animal enteropathogens e.g., Salmonella, Serratia and Klebsiella.
· Revealed kinetics of Paratyphoid infection in plants.
· Isolated E. coli O: 157 from buffalo meat (1992).
· Isolated enterotoxigenic strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae from food samples.
· Identified and purified Enterotoxic-cytotoxin of E. tarda, Serratia marcescens and S. rubidiae.
· Established role of cockroaches as carriers of S. Paratyphi B for a long duration.
· Established Cytotoxigenicity of Klebsiella strains and developed sero-diagnostic to identify pathogenic Klebsiella and its infections in animals.
· Purified and characterized three novel Klebsiella kneumoniae enterotoxic cytotoxins.
· Identified Enterotoxic-cytotoxin of Morganella morganii.
· Developed genus-specific ELISA for Salmonella and salmonellosis diagnosis.
· Purified and characterized three novel Salmonella cytotoxins of S. Gallinarum and S. Weltevreden.
· Identified Ampicillin sensitive Aeromonads for the first time from foods and environment.
· Identified 11 different types of enterohemolysins of Salmonella Paratyphi B, 6 types of S. Gallinarum and 9 types of S. Abortusequi.
· Developed test for determining DNase production by Salmonella.
· Standardized Guinea pig model for safety testing of S. Abortusequi vaccines.
· Isolated Shigella dysenteriae type 1 from fish and shellfish.
· Reported more than 40 Salmonella serovars for the first time in India.
Despite of doing so many odd things (really none of these was required earlier or now, the scientist wasted lot of chemicals, spoiled lot many associates and their time) and hard work (although he thinks it a hard work was mere wastage of energy), he erred to get the punishment of slow strangulation to get mad and die in isolation.
What were his major errors for which The Deputy Director General and Secretary Indian Council of Agricultural Research said to him that if they would have not been lenient they would have terminated him at least ten times (one time termination is enough for a normal person as feeble as this village guy but they were not satisfied with one hanging, hang the culprit for 10 times because they felt that he is the carrier of an infectious disease which can madden more than fifty percent of the scientists of the council). Some of his faults are as under:
1. He objected for the import of a discarded vaccine for fowl typhoid by a renowned firm which was very close to the heart of the authorities and as a punishment for not agreeing to be the treacherous to the country and loyal to disloyal his transfer was recommended for the first time in 2004 but in the meantime he got promotion to the place of his recommended transfer place despite all efforts of those who wanted to punish him. It all happened due to then-Chairman ASRB (Dr. CD Mayee) who favored him (as everybody says) for some unknown reasons (he does not belong the subject, region, caste, political affiliation, state etc. of the Chairman which would have provoked the Chairman for his favor but he still favored probably for his madness).
2. At his new place of posting (National Research Centre on Equines, Hissar) he didn’t get sitting and working place for about a year, when he wrote to the Director-General (his second great mistake), ADG came for inquiry and a day before his secret visit the scientist was given a sitting room to prove him false with on paper backdate allotment, nobody was there to hear him all good and wise people of the Institute gave evidence against the madman and to favor the power, as usual.
3. At National Research Centre on Equines, Hissar he was made chief of the purchase committee to entangle but luck favored him (or disfavored, who knows) after few days of his taking charge a file came for purchase of Brass statue of horse with minimum quotation of rupees nine lakhs for the item which was available in just forty-five thousand rupees in market, the madman objected purchase but bought the enmity of the mighty director. Then attempts to eliminate the foul fellow started. The first attempt was on 3rd July 2006 through hiring the gundas to kill him but two of the goons were picked up by the mobile police (came by the luck or the bad luck) while trying to smash him, the madman reported the same to the ADG at Delhi, then started a series of methods to demolish the dirty fellow through fabrication of the evidence by all the wise and worthy of the Institute, each is a story and enough to write in books (one such was submitted long back by the scientist to DDG (AS) but could not get even the acknowledgements. In the last, the mighty God (Director) hired a Tantrik, and might Department set a big inquiry against him to evaluate the validity of his survey he conducted on vets treating equids despite all odds. The powerful RAC chaired by Dr. SK Garg, former VC and then a Director of a private Institute, grabbed the research and survey data, which has not been returned even after years of snatching illegally but legalized by the council. The influential members of committee came either by train or brought up by the Institute vehicles were rewarded with the to and fro taxi fares to carrot, I could not find any better word, and feeling unable to add some better adjective to those good people who happily signed the claims for declaring a madman as wise and planner of frauds? Scientist wrote several times for the return of his data and experiment/ survey records, neither data nor records were returned nor anybody thought to reply nor any report was provided to the complainant after a special RAC after spending Lakhs of rupees for the satiety of the wise and worthy director.
4. The Scientist got selected as Head of Division of Animal Sciences at CARI, Port Blair because his fatal fate was calling him or it was a conspiracy to settle scores or was a call of some destiny who knows (evident by the fact that despite developing vaccines and doing commendable unequivocal work in Bacteriology, he was not selected for Bacteriology but selected for animal sciences where he contributed a bit). There within a month of joining he got a letter that due to his mismanagement Institute lost several valuable strains of birds and animals. He himself requested an inquiry against him and to inquire into the matters related to animal sciences and frauds in research pertaining to animal sciences Indian Council of Agricultural Research formed a three-member committee in which none of the members had qualification relevant to animals sciences and person working in vegetables, spices and home science were sent to further complicate the grievances. The committee was successful in its task allotted, ignoring all facts and scientific evidence all frauds were validated and the scientist was hanged till death on Suli of no work.
5. The scientist made sever mistakes by exposing following fraud researches at CARI port Blair, a few of these have also been awarded by ICAR's prestigious awards for research and development and the team leader have been given the highest posts in Animals sciences (Director IVRI, Izatnagar) and near his retirement further been awarded with the post of VC a few months back.
a. Production of twenty generation of quail in a year i.e., each generation in 18 days and six hour, we should remember that 17-18 days is hatching time, how 6 hr old chicks can lay egg to start for new generation.
b. Production of a fertile cross (Quicken) by crossing of fowl and quail, birds of two different genera, it is scientifically impossible and if possible, where are those fertile or even non-fertile crosses anywhere in CARI or on earth.
c. Reported poultry birds eating 300 gm fresh azolla (a fern), where are those birds nobody knows but it is published as success story by DDG(H) in CARI Special Issue, The Echo of India, June 23rd 2008, at page 9-10.
d Farm Data records revealed that, Keep the birds half fed to increase the production and to better it keep them half fed on cattle feed containing NPN. This fact needs to be conveyed to all poultry experts over the globe.
e. Another success story published by DDG (H) in CARI Special Issue of The Echo of India, June 23rd 2008, at page 9-10, tells that on feeding of propionate chelated organic mineral supplement (to five cows) daily milk production increased from 7.74 ±0.1 lt, (in five control cows) to 8.32±0.1 but milk recording registers speaks that at no point of time no more than five cows produced milk more than 7 lts/ day, in CARI.
f. Sea water drinking goat is still a mystery since long and only the researchers know where it is.
6. Another grave mistake the scientist did was exposing the frauds in purchase.
a. Machines purchased for millions of rupees, namely a Carcass incinerator, Irrigation system and a heavy duty RO water system are not yet installed even after years of their full payment.
b. Chemicals of millions of rupees were dumped without use and new chemical were purchased year after year without any real requirement or use.
c. Feed stocks were found short of stocks costing lakhs of rupees by the poor scientist.
7. To finish the scientist a lady worker was sent to demolish the character of the scientist, solid evidences that she was sent by the Director were proved hollow to the committee visiting to inquire (although the scientist has never came to know the outcome of the committee).
8. Failing in tarnishing the character of the scientist a TS Mazdoor (who was realy mazboor to save his job) was forced to file a ST harassment case against the scientist but exercise proved futile due to there ill-cooked Decoctum of blames.
9. To prove that the scientists tells lies (the biggest lie to me is that truth has strength, I am convinced now that truth is the weakest string one have ever seen, truly said that “Jhooth ke Samne Sachcha Ro Marta Hai; truth dies away in front of lies), all the scientist of the Division were forced to write that the minutes of a meeting conducted by the scientist as HD were false and were never discussed (although it was signed by all the scientists of the Division, as they claimed latter that they signed without reading) but on production of the recording of the meeting as evidence another twist came to bar the scientist to conduct any meeting or attend any meeting.
This is not the whole story, only part is written and part will take decades to see and write what happens to the scientist. At present he is writing to request to get him transferred (although he has got no TTA for his earlier transfer, probably he don’t deserve other wise somebody might have heard his cry) to some place where he can work and prove his madness show his insanity in the name of science (which is the least needed thing at present but he want to sell (sail) it any how), because at the place (Jharnapani, Nagaland) he is working now, neither there is lab, nor any lab assistance to help the Principal Scientist (it is not the fault of the administrators at the place but it is due to the fact that there is no post of PS veterinary microbiology in the Institute but the scientist has been posted to strangulate him (for his purification, but Kutte ki poonchh kya kabhi sidhi hui hai, Dog tail can not be straitened even after keeping in a straight pipe for years together), teach him the lesson (pakki handi par mitti kabhi chdhati hai kya) for being a criminal (jail mein to sidhe sade bhi criminal ban jaate hain) who told the truth (sach kis chidiya ka nam hai, what is truth, Jo sikka na chale wahi to khota hai) who exposed the frauds (it is the only surviving process and viable for long) in research (paaglon ka kam) and purchase (it is chase to earn only) and at all levels (nothing is left un-leveled). The scientist not has been given any project/ assignments (it is just wastage of funds) since last many years (to leave him to die in frustration or get straightened). Let us hope for the full moon when those with good sanity may also gain a bit of insanity and might help the insane.
